Picasso and the Masters
Pablo Picasso spent his youth studying the figurative arts collections of the Prado museum between 1898 and 1899. After arriving in Paris in 1900, he chose the museum of the Louvre as the selected location for his training. He was imparted an artistic education rooted in the humanist tradition, studying and copying portraits, genre scenes and paintings. He was able to reproduce all techniques and he already knew how to draw as a classical master. His entire life was characterized by a constant dialogue with the great tradition of painting, a dialogue which he interrupted to begin one of the most significant artistic journeys of the 20th century: a journey that lead him to separate from cubism to pursue more extreme experimentations. The exhibition " Picasso et les maîtres" ['Picasso and the Masters"] includes, for the first time in history, over 200 works from the most prestigious domestic and international public and private collections. In a single exhibition venue, Picasso shares the spotlight with masters like Greco, Vélasquez, Goya, Zurbarán, Ribera, Melendez, Poussin, Le Nain, Dubois, Chardin, David, Ingres, Delacroix, Manet, Courbet, Lautrec, Degas, Puvis de Chavannes, Cézanne, Renoir, Gauguin, Douanier Rousseau, Titien, Cranach, Rembrandt and Van Gogh.
