Pastels
From Saturday, November 8, 2008 to Sunday, February 1, 2009, Paris' Orsay Museum will host an exhibition titled, Pastels.
Featuring approximately 350 works from 1850 to 1914, among which many masterpieces by the greatest pastel masters, who lived during that time: Millet, Manet, Degas, Redon e Lévy-Dhurmer. In the history of pastels, the 19th century is known as the renaissance and revolution of this art form.
Degas and Manet found in pastels the instruments for creating the perfect union between subject and medium of communication, while Redon submits this technique to his desire to radiate his subjects, adding to their air of mystery. Through pastels, drawing and pure color blend together, as do form and its dissolution, image and its infinite vibration.
The exhibit includes works that are rarely shown due to their fragility, extending the opportunity to rediscover a heritage hardly accessible by other means.
