Marie - Antoinette. The Paris Exhibition
From March 15 to June 30, 2008, The Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais in Paris will present an exhibition on Marie-Antoinette that spans her entire life.
For more than fifty years, Paris has not honored its queen with an exhibition, and this year it will do so through a display of over 300 pieces, excluding lost jewels and dresses that belonged to her, but it will be possible to admire furnishings, paintings, sculptures and works of art, which will give visitors a glimpse into the queen's life and personal taste.
In fact, in recent times, Marie - Antoinette has once again returned to being one of the most beloved historical figures thanks to recent biographies and, precisely, the success of the film Marie Antoinette. The exhibition's underlying theme is the life of Marie Antoinette from the days when the young Austrian archduchess arrived to the royal palace for the first time, for her marriage with the French heir, through her life as a queen, and up to her death. She brought to Versailles decorative arts and modernity capable of developing a style that, even today, is still recognizable.
This exhibition has been hailed as a must-see homage to the last queen, bringing to light her many sides with an exhibition set-up by Robert Carsen.
