La belle image, l'art du calotype britannique

The art of the English Calotype (1840-1865), the first British photographs on paper is the title of the exhibition that will come alive from May 27, to September 7, 2008 at the famous Orsay Museum of Paris.

The exhibition will be mounted in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York, together with the National Gallery of Art of Washington D.C. and will showcase famous photographers by famous photographers like Talbot, Roger Fenton, Benjamin Brecknell Turner and works by promising photographers like William Collie or Arthur James Melhuish, according to field specialists.

The Orsay Museum Exhibition counteracts the French daguerreotype display showcased by the Orsay Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2003. There are multiple differences between the two photographic styles, the French daguerreotype is exempt from rights and, in time, transforms itself in to a popular and commercial tool, as opposed by the Talbolt calotype which had a short span and was localized in the gentlemen niche market at the end of the 1800s.
