Gras Savoye Grand Steeple-Chase - The Jump Racing of Paris
Sunday, May 25, 2008 will showcase the 130° edition jump race at the Auteuil Racecourse of Paris. The event, which has taken place in Paris since 1874, is the most spectacular and famous horse race in France. In order to play host to this sporting event, the Auteuil Racecourse was built specially for jump racing.
The first race competed, in this racecourse, with the aim of equaling the British «Grand National Steeple-chase». Today, this competition stands on its own merit, and as of 2005, the racecourse has gained the ISO 14001 qualification that underlines the cultural and organizational standards it represents From 1863, the Société des Steeple-Chases has had the task of organizing horse-racing events. From 1981, after undergoing various modifications, the "course au clocher" is composed of 23 imposing jumps spread over a distance of 5800 meters. Gras Savoye Grand Steeple-chase of Paris is the first event to attract a large public gathering from all corners of France.
