Bastille Day, July 14th

All of France celebrates its biggest national holiday on July 14th. Bastille Day commemorates the storming of the maximum security Bastille prison, marking the start of the French revolution.
Paris celebrates with a grand military parade on the Champs-Elysées, fireworks and festivities throughout the city.

The military parade is impressive: all armed and police forces march and drive down the Champs Elysées from Place de l'Etoile to Place de la Concorde. The President of the Republic and the highest state officials watch the parade from the VIP stand in Place de la Concorde.

The street parade is combined with an air show including about 60 combat planes and about 30 helicopters. The air show is opened by the Patrouille de France acrobatic jets, painting the sky with the colors of the French flag.

Celebrations continue throughout the day until dusk when the crowd of Parisians and tourist throng the Champs de Mars to watch the incredible fireworks enveloping the Eiffel tower with an aura of lights and colors.

Bastille Day is a celebration day throughout France so even if you're not in Paris, don't worry, you can still enjoy the parades, fireworks and guaranteed fun.
