Andrea Mantegna 1431 - 1506 at the Louvre
The Louvre museum will host from September 5, 2008 to January 5, 2009 an exhibition entirely dedicated to the famous Italian renaissance painter, Andrea Mantegna.
By far, the largest exhibition dedicated to this notable artist ever held outside Italy, a great retrospective on this important individual, who left a mark on the history of Italian Renaissance art. The exhibition will cover the main stages of Mantegna's artistic career, how his work influenced other artists of his time, and the swift distribution of his works throughout Europe.
In its permanent collection, the Louvre owns this artist's main works, such as the two decorative panels created as a decoration for Isabella d'Este's room (Parnassus and Minerva chasing away the Vices included in the exhibition, "Mantegna at Mantua," together with the Lorenzo Costa's panel), his beautiful rendition of Saint Sebastian and, finally, the platform of the crucifixion from the shovel of Saint Zeno.
